A great example of a model renewable system is one in which water is electrolyzed using renewable energy to produce hydrogen and oxygen, which is then stored and later used in a fuel cell, to produce energy and water.
As an example, the Hydrogen Mini Grid System (HMGS) in the UK is a unique demonstration asset. It contains a 225kW wind turbine coupled directly to an electrolyzer, 200kg of hydrogen storage and a hydrogen dispensing unit to be used with Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles, as well as a 30kW fuel cell system for back up power generation for nearby buildings. Now if the system is designed so that no part ever ends up in the landfill, the system would be truly renewable.
